Yes, very funny. Linux has the world's only proven implementation of it. One
of the specifications was `as fast as a modem is good enough'. I can't see
any way to push RFC1149 to even 28800 BPS.
The Ronja Metropolis, fancy as it is, is too complicated. I am wondering what
sort of (pre)amp I need to bolt a LED and photosensor onto an RS232
interface. Would an op-amp and a schmitt trigger do, d'ya think? At 115200
BPS, you wouldn't need much more than a megahertz, I'd think. Even a 741
should handle that at moderate gains.
