BTW of course you can do the same thing manually, but the advantage of a
snapshot-style facility is that you don't have to manually/script a way
to make 'known-good' copies of files for the purpose of backup. It's
"instantaneous", so apart from a pause with some daemons, there's no
need for "sorry, our site is down for maintenance". And it's easy to
automate without a lot of pain or even maintenance.
