If its a Trident CyberBlade XP, its perfectly good for X. You'll need to 
install at least XF864.2 and then replace trident_drv.so with one from 
http://www.xfree86.org/~alanh/ .

I use it on my laptop, and all is happy. Without, I could only use VESA 
mode.
