Should've thought of that. Anyway,

/tmp/hdc:
  I/O support  =  1 (32-bit)
  unmaskirq    =  1 (on)
  using_dma    =  1 (on)
  keepsettings =  0 (off)
  readonly     =  0 (off)
  busstate     =  1 (on)

is how I expected: DMA enabled, but the kernel is often not using DMA mode.
