Hi Pluggers..

<hype>
All of you probably know Scott & Matt (of LinuxIT.com.au) fame.
if not, you should get over to their shop and find out..

http://www.linuxit.com.au should hopefully give you the address .)
</hype>

They have kindly organised a couple of machines on loan from
a comp supplier, to be used for comparison testing for an
article for LinMagAu.. :) woohoo !!!

<more hype>
Andrew and the guys at Xtreme are supplying the machines for the day
by way of supporting us, so get over the their shop and
support them right back !
Evolution Xtreme in Myaree (ask for Andrew Scott)
</more hype>

This will be held at the LinuxIT shop close to Freo.

Currently we plan.
3 machines, Mandrake, Debian and Gentoo.

Saturday July 12th Actual testing day
Prior to that installation needs to be done..

Scott:
We can't do a test on install because Gentoo would take way too long.
The way i see it is time vs performance ie Is compiling custom packages
worth the effort. Mandrake is compiled for a 686,Debian - 386 and Gentoo
will be whatever the system is. So it should be a good comparison.

We change the clock speed in the BIOS down 10% so later we can test the
difference with a 10% increase. The reason we do this is to simulate
spending an extra $50 for a 10% faster CPU. Again the comparison time vs
money.
:

We are looking for..

1) A couple of folks to put up their hands to do the pre installation
so that the day of testing, can actually be testing :)
Scott says:
People involved in setting it up will have FULL access to LinuxIT before
the day and all the help we can provide except where we have to help our
clients.:

2) Suggestions on what to test..

Scott will be making the final "go assessment" on the testing suggestions.

Indy will be standing in a chief organiser of the day :)
so any questions indy at linmagau.org
although we can also discuss here in the list..:)

I will be trying to do as little as possible,except take photos,
make notes, then create the article with the outcomes etc..

We might even offer up "nibbles" :)..
Compliments of Scott(LinuxIT) and anyone else who turns up with
a bag of crisps :) (Bacon is my favourite flavour) :)

Any takers ?

Kim
