[plug] Find and Replace in multiple files

Recently my Dad had to replace a string in about 150 source files. He is a 
windoz user and was trying to use wgrep. In the end he did it with lots of 
difficulty. I was wondering if someone could give me a simpler solution for 
future reference. He has access to my Linux server that is running smb.
The files would be in some directory like 
~/DW/DW_Something/Programming/Project/Source/
He would have an input string "!***" and a replace string "!*->"
It needs to be ether a shell command or a script where the input and 
replace strings are set at the top or somewhere easy to find.
