[plug] failing adsl connection

For some reason, just recently my pppoe connection over a D-Link 300
ADSL ethernet modem has started falling over. Restarting the network
gets it going agin and it stays going so long as there's some regular
activity. Stay away too long and fails again. I don't know what's
causing it nor what to do about it. But is seems that /var/log/messages
gives some clues. Here's a slice:

I don't even know what MTU and MRU are:( Anyone got any ideas what
