Is it actually possible to control the IRQs which are assigned? I thought, in 
my ignorance, that it was part dependent on the hardware (what is in which 
slot), and part dependent on the BIOS (which hardware is enabled).

Why should two Linux distros get the hardware assigned onto different IRQs?
