Hmm, I suppose there is no physical connection to Optus B3, so it does
sort of count as wireless, but I think that when you use the the word
"Wireless" you're thinking of 802.11x or any number of other short range
solutions. (When I say short range, I'm talking within 10 km or so.) The
solution I'm using covers me all through Australia, New Zealand and a
number of locations around the Indian Ocean and the Pacific.

Need any more hints :-)

PS. I concede that if you're only using your backup a day or 2 every
couple of months, this is not the solution for you. You might find it
much more effective to get a mate within clear-line-of-sight, with a
similar requirement to yours, each buy a yagi and a wireless access
point, and ensure that you're both connected to different pipes. That
way both of you have each other as the redundancy. You could expand it
to cover a number of mates and even share traffic among yourselves...

PPS. For those of you still curious as to what solution I was talking
about, it's a two-way satellite link, called 2-Way SatWeb from Optus.
There are alternatives (with apparently less coverage area) from Telstra
and I know that WestNet also sells some satellite services...

PPPS. You might ask why I'm with a 2m dish - it's because I'm travelling
around Australia over the next two years or so, need permanent broadband
while I'm travelling and need it to be affordable. (Albeit not quite
portable :-) (Photo's and website coming RSN. :-)
