KDE 3.1.2 on Debian (sid).  A bunch of extraneous servers running: cups,
samba, sshd, apache, ntpd.

With konsole running a screen session with two mutts, two vims and a
bash shell, I'm using a hair under 135 Mb.  Machine's been powered up
for 12 hours.

In case it matters (I think it may - XFree86's memory consumption is
nontrivial) I have Nvidia graphics cards, two monitors at 1152x864 with
full screen desktop backgrounds on XFree 4.3.

Another data point: a machine with a freshly installed (today) Debian +
XFree 4.3 + KDE 3.1.2 with a konsole running was using 65mb. (Also
running cups, samba and sshd. NForce built-in graphics @ 1024x768.)

I /suspect/ that this would be normal, especially if your 185mb includes
cache.
