You need to pause it first, or else the output will
jump back down to the current location whenever some
new output arrives. Unless you're on an X terminal of
some sort (eg. gnome-terminal, probably others), but
you're clearly not in this case.

Or is there some way to make the console behave that
way (not automatically jump back if you've scrolled
up)? I know I would use it :)
