wow, I was just about to recommend this book.

Its written by a local too, Barry Kauler used to (probably still does) lecture
out at ECU ML. I still have this book too, I was reading it a few weeks ago.

Its definitely a 10/10 book - grab DOS and a 386 and youll learn lots.
