[plug] mouse wont work under X

Hi list,
        I have a 3-button microsoft mouse that won't cut and
paste under X11

gpm works in a console with
     gpm -t ms -m /dev/mouse

in XF86Config it says 

Section "Pointer"
    Protocol    "Microsoft"
    Device	"/dev/mouse"
    ZAxisMapping 4 5
#    Protocol	"Xqueue"
#    BaudRate	9600
#    SampleRate	150
#    Emulate3Buttons
#    Emulate3Timeout    50

can you see anything wrong with this?
