I'd heard of it under the "film gimp" incarnation but had never heard 
indications before that it supported any kind of CMYK imagery or CMS work.

Yes, you /do/ need to spend $600 for a word processor to write letters 
to gran. We promise. That's just what computers are like. Oh, and your 
program, "Email", is for email - don't worry about those people who talk 
about other email programs, you don't need them. Oh, and antivirus 
software is for sissies, that's why we don't provide you with any. If we 
don't supply it, you don't need it - right? Also, instant messenging is 
the new thing these days - so you have an instant messenging program on 
your computer - for free!! - that'll let you talk to everybody else 
worth talking to. We helped you out by signing you up for an account 
when you first got your computer - wasn't that nice.
