Well, I guess I got happy too quick, still cannot access google.com. When I last reported I could it let me have a shot at it once, when I went back to do another search I was back where I started from.
So I did the following:
ping google.com, www.google.com, etc = unknown host
traceroute times out after I get to singapore
dig =
; <<>> DiG 9.2.1 <<>> www.google.com
;; global options: printcmd
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached
[root at hm root]# dig google.com
; <<>> DiG 9.2.1 <<>> google.com
;; global options: printcmd
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached
This is a real pisser.

Initial followed by continutation? That sounds normal ;)
When you say "initial request", do you mean that the HTTP Request is
being made but an HTTP Response is not being issued, or are you talking
about things at the level of TCP connections? You raised this problem on
22 March and I provided a set of possible points of failure but I don't
recall if you provided us with information about what you discovered.
Some pertinent unsolved mysteries include:
- are you getting the right IP address for www.google.com and
www.google.com.au (should be 216.239.39.99)?
- can you ping www.google.com?
- can you telnet to www.google.com TCP port 80 and get a response
if you enter the line "OPTIONS * HTTP/1.0"?

Huh? How could you visit a site with a URL? :)
