That's interesting. My first comment, if not for that, would've been 
that I've always found the savage4 buggy and horrible. I used to own one 
and had no end of trouble with it - freezes, graphics corruption, etc. 
*ick*.

I assume you're using the s3 driver not VESA or anything like that? S3 
cards often have _awful_ VESA support.

Could X be overrunning the card's video memory - perhaps using some of 
it for RENDER operations? Have you tried dropping the resolution and/or 
colour depth to see if that helps?

Otherwise - is it definitely just a graphics issue? No issues with 
programs exiting on SIG11 or SIG4 occasionally?

Yeah, I'm just guessing. Nothing in that info struck me as odd.
