Cooking Asian food is definitely something that requires this skill! 
(e.g. beef curry + chicken curry + stir fry + rice + roti/bread).  I 
learnt how to cook while living at Uni, surrounded by Asian people :-) 
But it is equally transferrable to European style dishes as well.

The other source is tv cooking shows which despite the level of bs which 
goes on, can provide some good recipes and info.

I guess you could say cooking is like programming, in a way...  you take 
basic ingredients and make it into something complex, and it is both art 
and science.

All this talk of food is making me hungry :-)
