Took a look in /etc/modules just then and couldn't find it there either.

Ben's advice on rmmod and insmod has got everything working for me so
far under VMware I just need to work out someway of making it permanent.
Interestingly I had to add 'acm' on a single line to
/etc/hotplug/blacklist as it seems it was loading a modem driver for it.

Thanks for all the help so far I'll keep digging and see if I can find
out anything.
