[plug] Recent notebook linux experience?

Has anyone bought a notebook computer lately, which they found easy to
get fully functional (sound, drives, display acceleration)?

I'm moving house, and have found myself with the readies to replace my
aging Toshiba! Happy with that.... 8^)== I'm one of the Debianites, but
if a given notebook needs binary only drivers to work I _could_ live
with that..

I prefer name brands but I'd be appreciative of experience with all
currentish notebooks..
