Oh, and, remember, it was you who started whinging about the poor 
attendance at the event, which was clearly due to the inadequate notice 
of the event and what it was about, being posted to the list.

If you want people from a particular mailing list to attend an event, it 
is worth giving adequate notice of the event, and what it is about, by 
posting a message that contains that information, to the mailing list.

Simple.
