I recently copied a 120GB disk in a very similar manner, including forgetting
to specifiy a block size. At the default of 512 bytes, each sector takes a
number of reads and writes to complete. Not terribly efficient. Mine were on
the same IDE channel which made things a lot worse for me.
It took, IIRC, about 17 hours on an Athlon XP1700 with a gig of RAM and much
more modern disks than you're using.
