If you are willing to learn a few keystrokes adding a line to
/etc/apt/sources.list IS trivial..

e.g.

cat >> /etc/apt/sources.list

<enter the line to be added here>

<control Z>

then a
pt-get update && apt-get install mplayer

will be all you need to do... If you find THAT level of editing/command
line proficiency onerous, perhaps Debian ISN'T for you.. VIM or EMACS
would certainly be a bridge too far...

But many of us enjoy doing stuff like that in seconds (ok, milliseconds
for Matt and other gurus..  8^)==  ), compared with the wait for GUI
tools to start and close... 

With a beard like mine it is obvious I don't want to start a flame
war.... 8^)==
