2.6 kernel will have significant improvements in that regard.
Large parts of the disk subsystem (revolving around SCSI and "SCSI")
have been re-done for improved performance with high-bandwidth
devices in mind.
I don't know the details; just regurgitating Linux Magazine. :-)
