[plug] Creating a Wiki experiance ?

I'm trying to get my workplace to create a knowledge base for the help
desk and other such troubleshooting experiences.. and I have been
hearing a lot about "Wiki's" of late..

Does anyone here have any experience in wiki's? 
Would a wiki be a decent solution for a knowledge base or do you have
a better solution?
How difficult are they to setup/ maintain?
