If you have good quality cable and connectors, a good crimper 
(EXPENSIVE), and preferably a cable tester then 'make'. Especially if 
you'll be making a lot of cable, it's probably worth it.

If you're only going to be needing a few, they aren't super-long, and 
you won't be needing them often then I'd suggest just buying some. 
Pre-made cables aren't 100% either, but they're going to be a LOT better 
than your first attempts - especially if you're using solid-core 
cross-connect cable for patch leads and using the wrong (and cheap) ends.
