Maybe you are rate-limited to one ping per day for that device ;-)

Noting how much they were delayed, and noting that in total you have
20 pings to that device and 20 pings coming back, I guess it's just a
"display interpretation" issue. I guess the device is sending back a
belated ICMP response, and thus being displayed misleadingly by mtr
for unknown reasons. Maybe mtr has an internal timeout and does not
consider such belated responses as part of its original request.
