Thanks Russell and Matt,

I found out it was happening again. This time it was 27gb and my system
was unusable. I had to restart.

After restarting and logging into a virtual terminal the file was still
there and I deleted it with the rm command.

I hadn't seen your advice yet so I just touched it.

So far no application has written to that file but be sure i'll post
back here if the problem comes back.
