Yet, nine times out of ten, people write their land numbers as
12 3456 7890. Mobile numbers are the same length but they are
printed variably as 1234 567 890, 123 456 7890, 1234 567890 or
(as you suggested) 1234 56 7890. People even do this on their
business cards:

Ph: 12 3456 7890
Mb: 1234 567 890

!?

I thought the old six- or seven-digit numbers were written
as 12 3456 or 123 4567, so it seemed a fairly standard format.
Yet, Telstra seems to use 1234 567 890 for mobile phone numbers.
I thought there might be a reasonable explanation for the mess.
