MythTV has this sort of feature, but it has flaws.. ie a friend of mine has
a mythtv setup, and he was recording an episode of "west wing" where there
were "blackouts" in the story line.. Unfortunately the myth TV though that
every time there was a blackout in the show, it was the beginning of an
advert.. and so stopped recording till it came back on..

What bugs me most about TV is the adverts.. Its easy to avoid  shows 
that you are not interested in but its very hard to dodge those 
adverts.  I  was trying to think up a way to automatically  mute the 
volume on adverts the other day and had a bit of an idea of an internet 
based system, with an IR control and some sort of P2P voting system... 
anyone have any good ideas/thoughts?
