Hmm, I'm not convinced.  From "make menuconfig" in 2.6.0:

	ONFIG_APM_DO_ENABLE:

	Enable APM features at boot time.

It defaults to off.

The laptop I'm typing this on does precisely that.  The lid switch locks
the X display.

Yeah, I got the idea.  Your coherency is at least as good and probably
an awful lot better than mine at the moment.  I also apolgise for any
typos in this and other mesages in the following week as the laptop has
a truly awful keyboard and the latency to my DSL line in Perth makes
fixing mistakes more painful than it would otherwise be.
