Sorry this has probably been said before but what is AuDA??

And what you say makes sense... but there must be better ways of controlling
squatting than just "make it bloody hard to get"

Sounds right to me. .net.au, .com.au, etc all have different purposes,
and different requirements. Almost like the suffix is meant to /mean/
something ;-)

I hope it's harder. .com has major squatting problems and all sorts of
other nasties, where .com.au works rather well - at the cost of being a
little harder to set up.

Absolutely. I went to the AuDA seminar last year(?) and they made it
very clear at the media lunch and the following seminar why we have the
domain system we do. I couldn't be happier with it - I don't have to
worry about squatters, and everything seems to just work.

The AuDA folks are really nice; if you get a chance, I suggest you say
