Indeed. Try this instead:
	apt-get --purge remove lilo && apt-get install grub

It will update the vmlinuz symlink which is all that Grub requires -
there's no need to reinstall the boot loader every time your kernel
changes with Grub.  I haven't noticed any issues with the symlink
updating.
