If you have lots of time on your hand then try out Gentoo :-)

Compile everything for your machine specifically and squeeze every
last drop of juice out of it ;-)

If you'd like to try this but don't have the time to spare for the
initial install then go get the anaconda install and recompile key
parts at a later date when you do have time..
