Since I haven't yet contributed to the off-topic part of this thread
(where have I been?)...After coming to Perth's western suburbs from
the Northern Territory, I noticed some differences such as these:

 - There's more than one road out of town in each direction.
 - The structures most likely to get struck by lightning are not you and
   your house.
 - Public recreational areas remain above the water level even when it's
   been raining.
 - Weather forecasts actually have to be revised on a daily basis,
rather than being replayed from last year.
 - It can get /very/ hot during the days, but it's dry (like in the
middle of the NT) so it's not so bad.
 - "Bad" is when it gets above 60% relative humidity.
 - People can explore real diversity in their wardrobes.
 - Regional TV news is just a rip-off of big-city news (and half the
Perth news is produced in the eastern states).
 - (Warning: this line is serious but possibly sounds offensive to some
people.) There are hardly any drunken Aborigines in broad daylight.
 - The dust is terribly boring and "grey", but it colour-coordinates
   with just about anything!
 - Adapting back to the colder temperature did weird things to my
   appetite.
 - When it's really cold, and one compresses an area of flesh, it
doesn't fill up with blood again.
