The answers are these:  
  
1. The loopback was caused by the ISP updating its courier  
software, which changed the headers which subsequently  
showed the messages as having been delivered and then  
forwarded to the addressees, by the addressees, before we downloaded the  
messages, confusing postfix. The previous headers were  
apparently of the old qmail format, and had worked with our  
version of postfix, without us having the -q flag set.  
  
2. The problem appears to have been fixed, by us changing  
the values in our postfix configuration file, for  
myhostname and for mydomain, so that these values are now 
different to the domain name in the Delivered To addresses 
as shown on the messages when they are in our mailbox at 
the ISP waiting for us to download them.
