[plug] usb card reader

Have a bit of a weird problem

I used a usb 3 in 1 reader to back up some files onto a 256M SD card a
few weeks back.  Worked fine at the time, but the person I did this for
has just come back and said that the card plugged into it is now read
only under windows.  

Sure enough, it mounts read only under linux (fedora and the original
laptop which is gentoo), and can only be forced to rw as a remount.  The
lock is "off"

There are a few references to this on the net, but they are of no use or
in German etc.

Has anyone stumbled across this before?
