[plug] directory size listing

As I remember it, directories only contain a list of the numbers
(inodes) of the files it "contains". These numbers are all the 
directory file (it is indeed a file) actually contains. It looks like
the 4.0 K size of the list is a fixed number or an optimization. I
can't recall seeing a bigger size than that ever though.

Maybe someone can tell us more about this, I am interested in this now!
(Not interested enough to actually look it up myself mind you :)
