This is the sort of thing you get with a 2.6.4 installation without
devfs:
	$ ls -ld /dev
	drwxr-xr-x  34 root root 180192 2004-05-23 12:03 /dev
	$ ls  /dev|wc
	   7475    7475   46261

Time for me to try out udev, I suppose.
