I have had this problem about 4 months ago. Here are your options:
1. (What I did) Buy an Apple iBook/iMac. The hardware is really fast and
linux runs on the PPC RISC architecture. Probably the best Linux distro
to
use on Mac hardware is Yellow Dog. It's a really modern and easy to use
OS.
Kinda like Mandrake, and Yellow Dog runs on PPC hardware ONLY, so it is
designed and concentrated on that only.
Secondly go slackware. Mac hardware is cheaper than Intel hardware
because
you upgrade a lot less than in Alpha, and it looks awesome.
This is my recommendation.
2. HP sell Linux PCs. I'm not sure if they do in Australia, but i'm
sure you could order one online.
But seriously, get an iBook, they're so lovely and Yellowdog detects
and installs flawlessly on ALL Apple hardware.
