My understanding is that with Quartz and Aqua (the Mac OS X graphics and
windowing environments) the icons are bitmaps but everything else is
vectors (Apple touts Quartz as being PDF-based). Regarding icons, they
are scaled so well that they seem to be vectorised, but actually aren't.
