Not quite I'm afraid. TWAIN is an API for accessing image devices under Mac and Win primarily. A 
middleware api if you like. The driver talks to the device and implements a TWAIN interface, the app 
talks to the user and implements a TWAIN interface. The theory being any TWAIN compliant app can use 
any TWAIN compliant device.

Seeing as you need the driver to talk to the device, on some devices under linux you are SOL.

Once upon a time I heard that a machine running SANE could access a TWAIN compliant device on 
another windows box but currently Google is not helping here and thus it might just be a parity error.
