I have several newsgroups here with over 10,000 articles online.
(PLUG-equivalent of about 2 months.)

I've had over 20,000 articles in a newsgroup in the past without
technical issues; other than excessive space requirements... I need
the space for other things!

leafnode2 hashes on message-id for one thing.
As long as you're using Reiserfs, everything hums along quite well.
