[plug] fedora core 3 probs

I'm having a few probs with fedora, not my favourite of distros.

First, it's not shutting down, it halts, but doesn't power off, how do I fix 
that? Would it have been one of the servies I turned off? RH also seems to 
update /dev, when I make links from /dev/hdc to /dev/dvd and /dev/cdrom, 
they're gone by the next boot. How to I fix these fellers?
