In the recent past I have had Debian GNU/Linux installed on a Toshiba laptop.
Works great.
Also just recently installed it on an IBM Thinkpad T43. Was a little tricky but after
some cleverness involving an Knoppix 3.9 CD and reDebianifying it, it works great.
Wireless works, bluetooth works, CD works, display works.
