(nit pick: The permissions on the file you're trying to delete are
irrelevant.  It's only the directory permissions that you need to look
at.  This is why, e.g. you can have a file owned by root in your home
directory and still be able to delete it, but not be able to delete a
file that you own in /usr/local/bin.)
