[plug] apologies, real n00b question.

I need to start up another instance of X on my PC - want to run db2
admin tools, and it wants its own access to the desktop

the instructions say 
xhost + hostname
export DISPLAY=hostname:0
db2fs

When I do the xhost, I get :
db2inst1 at Selous:~> xhost + selous
xhost:  unable to open display "selous:0"

Any ideas?

I'm sorta stuck, and I'm all adither because I have to appear to know
what's going on tomorrow at a job interview.

Any help appreciated.
