I know it's not "Linux" - but I've always thought the following book is
a must for any *Nix SA:

Essential System Administration
AEleen Frisch
0'Reilly ISBN: 0-596-00343-9

And then I'd compliment it with a "Distro Flavour" book - like SuSE or
Debian etc etc etc.
