:-) Go for Ubuntu then, Its debian based so it'll be familiar. 
Its got a good reputation for being a distro that "just works" (ie you
install it in a very simple easy fashion and then start working.. very
little if any post install configuration required).
They're starting the Ubuntu Server project right now.. looks like fun
already ;-)
The community behind it are great. Very helpful, excellent
documentation and quite friendly.
