I agree! As the saying goes, "leave your ego at the door", and lets
get things happening.

In helping people get the Linux feeling on their computer, I think we
need to first identify the problems that people have converting to a
new operating system. Lets start here and expand.

The problems are as complex as the discussion to date. We can
talk about it all we want and get nowhere or we can make a start
and see where it leads.

My suggestion is to start with hardware compatibility requirements.
I think this is where most of the problems arise, followed closely by
choosing a distro that suits you. The one biggest problems Linux has
is choice, with windows you get what Microsoft want you to have and
nothing more.

The distros that are making inroads in the corporate work station arena
have one GUI and a suite of the most commonly used applications after
install.

Now there's a thought, each distro needs a beginners/newbie install
option. That would solve most problems of choice! A basic starting point
after which you can get more adventurous.
