Well, that's kind of true.  If you don't like emacs or vim as your
IDE, there aren't many environments as polished as those typically
found under Windows (or other systems).  Me, I quite like a text
editor for bashing out code but that doesn't suit everyone.

A bunch of local root exploits have been found in all 2.4.x and 2.6.x
kernels and many have not been patched yet.  That's a very very far
cry from ideal and I'm not impressed with some of the kernel folks'
seeming lack of concern for some of these (instead leaving it to
distributors), or Debian's lack of concern for its stable release
(fixing some of the security problems in testing/unstable but not in
its stable released version -- the one that's supposed to get the
security updates).
